The course was developed by the Ministry of Defence in 2010, and reaches out to all employees in the defence sector. The main objective of the course is to become familiar with the most important rules and guidelines concerning attitudes, ethics and leadership.

The course presents and discuss various ethical dilemmas which are all relevant for the Norwegian defence sector.  Originally, the course consists of five modules, including a final exam. Below you will find descriptions of each of the five modules.

Business contact

Contact with business and industry is both important and necessary for employees in the defence sector. However, it requires a clear understanding of the parties’ respective roles. This module is intended to provide guidance on how to conduct in an ethically proper manner in contact with business and industry, and ensure compliance with the rules for public procurement.

Whistle-blowing

This module gives important information about relevant statutes, guidelines and legislation, and how to contact the internal reporting channel to seek advice. It contains an overview of what employees should consider, as well as links to relevant statutes and regulations.

Leadership restructuring

Bullying and collegial attitudes

Norwegian working environment act sounds: Employees shall not be subjected to harassment or other improper conduct. In other words, bullying at work is prohibited by law. When it comes to bullying, employers not only have a right, but also a duty to report it.

Cultural differences and diversity

The Armed Forces brings together people of different backgrounds and cultures. This may lead to situations where it can be difficult to understand each other’s views or limits. This module focuses on various dilemmas and challenges concerning cultural differences and diversity.
