The Building Integrity programme was established by NATO as an extension of NATO’s Partnership Action Plan on Defence Institution Building (PfP PAP-DIB).
Participating countries are encouraged to complete the BI Self- Assessment Questionnaire in order to identify the strengths and weaknesses of their defence integrity system. As a follow-up, a NATO-led peer review team may assist in evaluating the results of the questionnaire’s mapping and in proposing ways of addressing weaknesses and shortfalls.

Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Colombia, Croatia, Georgia, Hungary, Latvia, the Republic of Moldova, Macedonia, Montenegro, Norway, Poland, Serbia, and Ukraine.
Education and training
Education and training activities are part of the tools used by the Building Integrity programme to enhance transparency, accountability and integrity. Education and training are key to making and sustaining change and to producing long term benefits. Courses are organized to assist and train nations in building capacities and enhance institutions in the spirit of cooperative security. It aims at raising awareness, sharing best practice, processes and methodologies as well as at increasing interoperability and promoting international cooperation, all of which are important tools in achieving a more secure environment.
A large spectrum of tailored educational activities are offered, including domestic courses, online and mobile courses, on-demand courses, as well as pre-deployment training. Professional development training and ‘train-the-trainers’ can also be offered. Some courses are organized directly by NATO and others by the BI Implementing Partners.
